Blog from a New Zealander

Hello my name is Phoebe and I am hosting not 1 but 2 American home stays Connie and Priya. What a day we started off with flat pancakes, crepes again but only because they were so good filled with lemon juice and sugar. Next we went to Sylvia Park, that is New Zealand’s biggest shopping mall. We went to a shop called ‘sweets’ and sadly we never saw any hard candy being made but we went to ‘The Warehouse Extra’ and got packets of pineapple lumps, Crunchies and Minties and my home stays loved it. Crunchies are hard hokey pokey covered in chocolate. Hokey pokey is a mixture of golden syrup (like maple syrup) and baking soda combined. Pineapple lumps are chewy pineapple flavored lumps covered in chocolate and minties are hard and very chewy mint flavored lumps. My brother Lachlan showed Priya a shop called Smiggle and she fell in love, and she was thinking of buying the shop and opening it up in America and earning her fortune. Smiggle is a shop filled with scented erasers (rubbers) colour co-ordinated stationary. “A shop for all teachers as well”, My home stays are leaving tomorrow to explore Auckland and then off to Australia.
With cooking and tasting a variety of NZ food in the kitchen their taste buds have been challenged, and set on fire and new experiences had by all.
Thank you so much for this opportunity and we look forward to hosting again and exploring our country with you. We are sad to see Connie and Priya go.
Thanks Phoebe.
